However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and operates while you are at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the rivals. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's loud which could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it's going to cost you more and create more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dry mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and identify obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for better performance.
